This week Michael sits down with public school teacher Jack Gupton to talk about the successes and challenges he’s had teaching electronics and programming to his students with Arduino.

The two discuss how he introduced his 8th graders to the basic concepts on programming (3:50), how ‘Maker Challenges’ have worked to motivate his students (8:00), adopting less tradition forms of instruction (12:35), and the advice he would give to other teachers looking to bring Arduino into the classroom (18:40).

Hi. Interesting podcast (003). Any thoughts about Scratch4Arduino? Is it a good way of transitioning from scratch to arduino in the classroom? Maybe introducing an unnecessary stage?

I have not tried Scratch for Arduino yet, but I have been thinking about it literally for years… I think it would be worth a try. I would imagine the Scratch interface would make using the Arduino more approachable to even younger kids.
